Michael Hayato Vela
Aequip , CEO and co-founder
Michael Hayato Vela is CEO and co-founder of Aequip, a behavioural analytics platform with a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion, dedicated to making the workplace more inclusive for everyone. Aequip does this by zooming in on the relationships between the people sharing a place of work, especially at a time of great change.
A two-time entrepreneur, Michael started his journey to Aequip growing up in Geneva as part of a UN family. After graduating from Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, where he studied Biomedical Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Michael co-founded his first start-up, Pair Eyewear, and subsequently helped build the operations functions at Collective Health. Michael then moved to London to complete his MSc in Entrepreneurship with Distinction at UCL. Michael was a founder-in-residence in the Zinc Venture Builder Programme, where he developed the business model and early product concept that he grew into Aequip. Aequip was awarded an Innovate UK grant in 2021 to develop the Behavioural Science technology platform.
Michael founded Aequip with retail executive and long-serving ambassador for the Be Inspired programme Miriam Lahage and CTO Patryk Kubiak.
